I already had a 15 lb weighted blanket, which was wonderful insofar as the weight and softness, but a real problem because microfiber is WAY TOO HOT for me. So I looked for one which was cotton, and found this one. It's perfect! I took the old blanket off my bed and put the new one on, and had the same weight without the overheating issue.I have never slept well without a pile of blankets on me to get the soothing weight I need. Thank God for weighted blankets! Now I can have the weight even if it is not that cold in our house (which is never is due to the heat/AC settings). We keep our house at 66 degrees at night, and it is a couple of degrees cooler in the master bedroom. At that temp, I do use a cotton blanket as well as the weighted blanket. If your bedroom gets cooler than that, you might still need another blanket or two.If you have much colder sleeping temps you can probably go with the microfiber versions of weighted blankets, and baste yourself in self-generated, retained heat. But you can still use this cotton version for warmer temps. The construction of this blanket is very high quality. Sturdy and well-structured. The cotton is a quality smooth finish. It is not velvety or plushy soft. Which is just what I wanted. It has loops for you to tie a duvet cover. I would never bother with this because I like the appearance of the blue 60 x 80 that I purchased, and I simply have no need to cover it up. It is washable, though I probably won't do it in my home washer, which is old and wimpy. The instructions email I received after purchase said that the blanket is supposed to lie flat across the top of the bed, and that if you size it so that it hangs off the bed, it will try to slide off during the night. Nope. While I can see that might be an issue if you have a smaller bed, we have a king sized bed and I have the 60x80 on my side of the bed, which means it hangs off the side of the bed by well over a foot. That's not enough to cause slippage of any kind.I have cotton sheets. If I had silk or satin or any other slippery sheets, maybe this would be more of a problem. But My blanket stays put, despite tossing and turning.I do find the weight very calming. Like Temple Grandin describes in her books, the squeezing or pressure relaxes and reduces anxiety for me.
